June 17-July 26, 9 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. (no class on July 4)
The equivalent of a full-year course and prerequisite for Algebra II, this class will cover linear equations and inequalities, polynomials, factoring, exponents, and graphing. It is designed for students who want to improve their grade in Algebra 1 course previously taken for credit, who will be taking Algebra I as a freshman and would like a preview, or who wish to move ahead in their study of mathematics. Enrollment is open to students entering ninth grade or above who have consulted with their math teacher. A TI-83 calculator is required of all students registered in this class. A 30-minute lunch break is included. Latin School students who wish to take this course should speak with the Math Department Chair for approval. This will ensure that students are reasonably placed. At the end of the summer, students will need to meet with the Math Department Chair to review the quality of their summer work to determine the appropriate placement for the upcoming school year.
