This is a course for incoming freshmen to get a jump-start on the skills that will make them successful in their English classes in 9th grade and beyond. Students will work to build knowledge and tools for annotation, close reading, and literary analysis. Through a variety of reading, writing, and discussion assignments, students will learn to read with an analytical eye and produce writing that closely examines authorial choices. All assignments are designed to prepare students for the analytical reading and writing they will be expected to do throughout their high school careers. After completion of this course with its emphasis on foundational reading and writing skills, incoming freshmen will find themselves well-equipped to take on the work their freshman year will bring, including their summer reading assignment!
