In Video Dance, students will explore basic concepts of cinematography and visual storytelling while honing their dance technique, improvisation, and composition skills. Every camp day will start with an athletic modern release technique class, followed by improvisation and choreography. After lunch, students will engage with elements cinematography such as lighting, blocking, and editing. We will then venture outside to a specific site the students have chosen to perform their choreography. Students will learn to operate a digital video camera in order to be cinematographer for a day as they direct their group in the making of their video dance. Over the course of the week, dancers will enhance their knowledge of performance skills and choreographic devices as they perform, direct, and compose an original site specific dance piece. The camp will culminate in a sharing of the video dances as well as a live installation performance of their work.
