Dear Families, Faculty, Staff and Trustees,

In the fall of the 2020-21 school year Latin created institutional diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) goals. Multiple inputs informed these goals including, results from the 2019-20 climate assessment, annual survey results, LEAD--our strategic design, Survivors of Latin Instagram page and Demanding Accountability group demands.

The goals are organized in five distinct areas of focus: representation, accountability, inclusion, professional development/education and curriculum, and each contains specific action steps. The work in accomplishing these goals  is collaborative, spans across the institution and will continue over the next few school years. The table below represents how we will implement action steps in each of the five areas.

Overall, the goals represent the things that have been identified as most urgent and important to the Latin community. We will also continue with our previous work, which includes ongoing professional development with faculty/staff, student programming in the three divisions and engagement with parents and guardians, the board of trustees and alumni.  In addition to the work of the institutional DEI goals, we will engage with other areas as well including, but not limited to, expanding affinity groups in the upper school and increased focus on religious diversity.

At Latin, inclusion is defined as actively creating and sustaining an environment of respect in which all members of the community feel accepted, affirmed, empowered and safe. Your partnership in these efforts is critical to us attaining the sense of belonging required for all students to feel healthy, engaged and supported. Thank you for your help.
