Latin’s Middle School helps students in grades five through eight expand their knowledge, pursue their passions and challenge their abilities.

Our curriculum covers all the traditional core subject areas (e.g., math, science, English and language arts, social studies and languages), but utilizes dynamic discussions, interactive lectures and hands-on experiences to present the material in new and innovative ways. We also offer myriad opportunities both in and out of the classroom that help our students become strong learners and capable leaders.

FAQs

Given that the school is academically rigorous, do you encourage students to participate in co-curricular activities such as clubs or team sports when school starts in the fall?

We encourage all students to get involved in co-curricular activities, and believe doing so will aid their transition to middle school. With this in mind, we offer a wide range of activities with time commitments that vary from once a week to once a day. Through these activities, students have the ability to make friends, pursue a wide range of interests, and exercise their mind and body while still having time to get their schoolwork done.

Approximately 80% of our middle school students participate in at least one sport, and many also join clubs, are members of academic teams, or participate in plays.

My child was moved ahead of his peers at his old school. Will you do the same?

We are committed to developing each student’s broad range of skills and knowledge, and believe this is best accomplished when students are with their peers. With this in mind, we have designed our curriculum, pedagogy, and assessments to challenge different students at different levels within the same courses and topics. The one exception is math, which features ability groups starting in sixth grade.

What opportunities or experiences are available to students before and after school?

Latin's middle school utilizes the school-as-community-center approach. On a typical school day, kids utilize spaces such as the cafeteria, library and common areas from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. They can often be found engaging in activities such as meeting with their teachers, playing a pick-up game of chess, or watching a movie with their classmates. They also meet in classrooms or the library to work on group projects. We take pride in the fact that our students enjoy spending time at Latin before, during, and after school!
