Latin School of Chicago provides its students with a rigorous and innovative educational program in a community that embraces diversity of people, cultures, and ideas. Latin inspires its students to pursue their passions and lead lives of purpose and excellence.

Our vision for educational excellence is to reinforce the value of an exemplary liberal arts education that makes learning inquiry-based, personal, and inclusive. Our approach expands each Latin Learner’s capacity for purposeful learning—whether in our school, our city, or our world.

 

 

OUR VALUES

Our shared values of excellence, community, and integrity affirm and define us. They serve as guideposts for all we do, and connect us—students, faculty, staff, families, trustees, and alumni—to each other and to Latin.

Framework & Process

Throughout the 2024-2025 school year, we engaged in an inclusive and holistic process to refresh existing priorities from the previous strategic plan and revise our goals in light of opportunities for growth and innovation.

Our strategic planning process was intentionally broad, inclusive, and iterative, ensuring the plan reflects the diverse voices of our community. Through surveys, listening sessions, leadership meetings, focus groups, and work teams, we gathered input, insight, and ideas that guided our process and informed each draft.

Across these opportunities and through many perspectives, the feedback we received was consistently aligned around Latin’s shared values of excellence, community, and integrity.

We saw these values reflected across all areas of the school from curriculum development and aligning co-curricular programs, to attracting exceptional educators and building a stronger community. We also learned about the critical role the values have and will continue to play in inspiring our students to pursue their passions and lead lives of purpose and excellence.
 
In this way, our mission, vision, and values serve as both our foundation and our aspiration. Wherever our students come from, and wherever they are headed, Latin supports, challenges, and prepares them. With that enduring purpose, we proudly present our new strategic plan: Forging Lives of Purpose through Excellence, Community & Integrity.

Introduction to Core Concepts

To encapsulate the ideas and input gathered from across our community, the strategic plan is organized into three core concepts:

Each core concept, along with its key focus areas, represents broad opportunities embraced by our collective community. While each concept stands on its own, they are deeply interconnected, reflecting the collaborative nature of this work. No single person or committee can carry out the mission, vision, and values of our strategic plan in isolation. Instead, these core concepts and focus areas establish a shared, student-centered vision to guide our collective efforts into the future.
