From September to January, fifth and sixth grade students needed to read a minimum of 2 books or as many as they could get through. Some of the popular book titles included, Michael Vey: The Prisoner of Cell 25, Addison Cooke and the Treasure of the Incas, Refugee, UGLY, Cyclone, Fuzzy Mud, and Phineas Gage: A Gruesome but True Story About Brain Science.
Students were assigned to one of 16 teams. Working with their team members, they competed in a bracket style competition, having to answer twenty questions crafted by both Ms. Houck and Ms. Finkle about the books they read. Before a winner was chosen, the final two teams battled during assembly answering questions like: In which book would you find the following quote, "The End (unless you have some words of your own to add)"?; in which book do characters race down the Potomac in a police boat?; and in which book is guinea pig a local delicacy?
The students did a fantastic job working as teams and supporting one another!
