The 8th grade students recently finished learning about hurricanes.
During this unit, students discussed the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina including how the levees surrounding New Orleans impacted the disaster. In order to gain a better understanding of the challenges engineers face to hold back water, students were tasked to build a levee on a budget that could hold back water for 30 seconds. Students were able to show off their creativity as well as learn engineering skills as they constructed various designs to hold back the water. See the students in action!
