Upper School Scholastic Bowl
The upper school scholastic bowl team went 18-2 in the Masonic and IHSA series. They finished in third place at Masonic, having only lost to the eventual 2A champion, Uni from Urbana. In the IHSA regional tournament, they won by an average score of 650-210. In the IHSA sectional tournament, they defeated Evanston Township High School 540-310 and Hinsdale Central 600-260 but lost a close game 390-480 to the sectional champion, Oak Park River Forest high school. Tejas V. ’21 and Chetan V. ’19 are both first team all sectional and in consideration for all-state honors. The season is over until they compete at the Small School National Championship Tournament in the first weekend in May.
Upper School Robotics
Latin’s team, called Animatores Romani, competed with teams from all over the state at the 2019 Illinois FTC Championship Tournament on February 22 - 23 in Elgin, IL.
Middle School Science Olympiad
The middle school Science Olympian's have qualified for the state competition after placing fourth at the Harper College Regional on Saturday, March 11. They will attend the state Science Olympiad competition at the University of Illinois in Champaign on April 13.
Middle School Spelling Bee
Seventh grader, Jaden F. ’24, was the champion of Latin’s middle school spelling bee competition. His winning word was "pectoral." He is moving on to the Chicago regional spelling bee held on Thursday, March 14. Our second place speller was eighth grader, Armaan S. ’23, and our third place speller was fifth grader, Lyla G. ’26.
Middle School Robotics
The middle school robotics team turned in an inspired presentation at the regional competition in December. The Robotics Club was started in earnest with a new group of students learning the coding necessary to contribute to next year's team.
Lower School Spelling Bee
Just as the Polar Vortex was descending on Chicago, spelling bee participants showed off their skills. This year’s winner is Gabe G. ’27! Gabe represented Latin at the local spelling bee on March 14. And a big congratulations to Rohin S. ’27, this year’s runner-up. It was a strong, healthy competition!
