Baseball: Mitch Glasser Named to All-Olympic Team

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Former Macalester College baseball standout Mitch Glasser '12 was named to the All-Olympic Baseball Team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by the World Baseball Softball Confederation, the WBSC announced on Saturday. Glasser, who played for Team Israel, was named the All-Olympic Team's right fielder.

Glasser went 7-for-17 over five games to rank fifth among all players with a .412 batting average. He also scored four runs and registered three doubles, two walks and four runs batted in. In a 12-5 victory over Mexico, Glasser hit a two-run single and later scored in a six-run seventh inning that broke open the game. In the field, he recorded seven putouts without an error.

While at Macalester, Glasser helped the Scots win the 2011 MIAC championship with a 16-4 conference record. A two-time All-MIAC infielder and an All-Region selection in 2011, he finished his collegiate career with 180 hits, 95 runs batted in, 109 runs scored and a .357 batting average in 148 games. Glasser, believed to be the first Macalester student-athlete to compete in the Olympics, was the first Macalester baseball player to be selected in the Major League Baseball draft. He was a 39th-round selection of the Chicago White Sox in 2012.

Team Israel placed fifth in the six-team tournament, which was won by Japan. Tetsuto Yamada was chosen the tournament's most valuable player. Click here to view the All-Olympic Team release from the WBSC.
