The Latin School of Chicago's Community Scholar Program aims to increase accessibility to a Latin School education to young people from throughout Chicago. Through generous four-year grants, Community Scholars donors' impact is transformational. As a direct result of the program, Latin has become a viable educational alternative for a broader range of families and has expanded the number of students who are benefiting from a Latin School education.

Expanding resources for financial aid programs is critical to Latin's mission. While Latin awards over $2.1 million annually which reaches as many as 18% of high school students, Latin is unable to meet the financial need for every student accepted for admission. Through the generosity of its donors, The Community Scholars Program has helped bridge this gap. Since its inception, the program has made it possible for 20 students to attend The Latin School.

The Community Scholars Program matches donors with high school students. Each Community Scholars recipient receives a named financial aid award. Latin does its best to select a recipient who best reflects the donor's philanthropic goals and, through regular correspondence, to establish a connection between donor and student.

Following are the Community Scholarships that have been awarded at The Latin School since the program's inception. Many of these donors have also augmented their gift through the contribution of a home computer and an offer of summer employment. Each contributor is recognized with a full-page story in the biennial Scholarship Dinner program book, on signage at major special events, in its annual report, and on its Web site.
