We provide instruction in the fundamentals and give boys and girls the opportunity to become the best possible players that they can be. Sports campers are required to wear appropriate athletic clothing and gym shoes, and should bring a water bottle each day. Please indicate t-shirt size on registration form.

Fitness and Physiology Tell a Friend!
Who: Grades 9-12
When:
June 30-July 18, from 9-11 a.m. (Mon, Tues, Thurs only)
How Much:

Instructor: Dan Houlihan

This course, led by Latin's Director of Fitness and Wellness, Dan Houlihan, will be an overview of several key components of strength and conditioning and the underlying exercise physiology. Students will engage in various methods and techniques of strength training and conditioning and will learn the science behind why and how the body adapts to a specific training stimulus. Nutrition in relation to sports performance will also be covered. Students will both study and perform various exercise programs to determine which exercises can cause maximal adaptations, and an emphasis will be placed on proper techniques. Students must come to class prepared to study and sweat!

Chess Masters Camp Tell a Friend!
Who: Grades 1--9

June 23-27, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

This camp will provide master chess instruction to all participants. U.S. Federation and World Chess Federation (FIDE) Masters, all of whom have experience in teaching chess, will lead students through various activities including tournaments, blitz chess, lectures, bughouse chess, and game analysis. The instructors will cover openings, endgames, tactics, and strategies. Games of the masters and the games of the campers will be analyzed. Campers will be placed in groups according to ability level. Campers must bring a bag lunch daily. Please indicate t-shirt size and your ability level on the registration form.

Volleyball Camps Tell a Friend!
Who: Grades 4-8 (see below for appropriate Section)
When:
Section A: June 16-20, 1-3 p.m. (Coed, grades 6-8)
Section B: June 16-20, 3:30-5:30 p.m. (Coed, grades 4-6)
Section C: July 21-25, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. (Coed, grades 5-8)
How Much:
$85 (per section)
Instructor: Liz Tortorello Nelson

Led by current Latin School varsity girls coach, Liz Tortorello Nelson, campers will receive excellent instruction in spiking, setting, blocking, passing, and serving--the fundamental skills necessary to become a well-rounded volleyball player. Scrimmaging will be a major component, while campers foucs on good sportsmanship and having fun.

Prior to her five years at Latin, Liz Tortorello Nelson served as head coach at Loyola University. She was twice named Coach of the Year while at Loyola, and led her team to three NCAA appearances. Liz was a setter at The University of Wisconsin, and captained the team to a Big Ten Title in 1990.

Instructor: One on One Basketball coaches

This summer, One on One Basketball, Inc. will lead Latin's summer basketball camps. Campers can expect to increase their skill level with high quality instruction. Skills, techniques, game strategy, and conditioning all will be covered, and will lay the groundwork for overall improvement. The one-week camps will emphasize the positive benefits of the sport: discipline, dedication, sportsmanship, and fun. Basketball campers must bring a bag lunch daily.
