Freshman Prep Tell a Friend!

This course will focus on the assigned summer reading for Latin's incoming ninth graders. Students will practice close reading, journal writing, text and context analysis, and essay writing. Enrollment is open to students entering Latin in the fall of 2008.

SAT Prep Tell a Friend!

Take advantage of an intensive two-week course to improve your SAT scores during the summer months. Students will acquire the tools and confidence to tackle the SAT Reasoning Test through this rigorous and effective prep course. During class meetings, students will increase their understanding of the critical reading, math, and writing components of the SAT through individualized and group instruction. In addition to learning general test-taking strategies, students will take (and then analyze) a number of sample SATs.

Expository Writing Tell a Friend!

This class is for students who want to know what steps go into writing a good, solid essay and avoid teacher-written comments like "problematic thesis," "argument needs work," or "support still lacking." This course will cover the fundamental principles of writing a thesis-driven essay. Students will work as a class, in small seminar groups, and individually with the instructor.

Middle School Reading and Study Skills Tell a Friend!

This skills-building class will help students enhance their vocabularies and improve reading comprehension, writing, grammar, and study habits. Students will focus on improving their organization, planning, note-taking, and test preparation processes.
