The Student Government is the principle body representing Upper School students at
Latin. Our goal is to effectively communicate the concerns and suggestions
of our peers to the faculty and administration. By serving as a bridge
between students and adults in the community, we work to make Latin the
best it can be.
Student Government is not limited to representing students of the Upper School, though. We
put emphasis on improving the entire school community, from Junior Kindergarten
to senior members of the faculty and staff.
Student Government comprises fourteen students--three representatives from each Upper School
class and two additional prefects who serve as the heads of the Student
Government--and two faculty advisers. We are unique in that we go to great
lengths to create a dialogue between ourselves and members of the school
community. Since we are working to improve the School, there is no better
place to begin than with the people of the School.
Our meetings, held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, are always open-door, and we have
a bulletin board with relevant messages to and from Student Government.
Our top priority is to serve the needs and interests of the Latin School
from a student perspective.
Our recent and current projects include:
- Buying a Roman mascot costume
- Random Acts of Candy
- Buying a foosball table for student use
- Buying furniture to be put around the School
- Organizing a Battle of the Bands
- Running Wednesday morning student talent assemblies
