Community Service

As part of Latin’s mission to provide a well-rounded education, the school is committed to educating students to be contributing members of our global society. Service learning is critical in teaching students an awareness of the world outside themselves and the needs of others. Lower, middle and upper school students all participate in service projects, working together to change our community for the better.

Every class in the lower school is involved in a variety of projects throughout the year, from making valentines for nursing home residents to collecting supplies for victims of natural disasters. In the middle and upper schools, students contribute to a variety of community-based service programs. Freshmen and sophomores are required to participate in a number of service events each year, events where pre-discussions, the actual project, and post-reflection are all emphasized. Students in grades six through twelve have many opportunities to volunteer with a variety of constituencies in need.

Service to world outside the school is fundamental to the Latin experience. Some of the greatest lessons Latin students learn are about the value, importance and honor in helping others.
