DEDICATION - Greg Baker
Reading "CATCH - 22" in Greg Baker's English elective remains one of my greatest memories from high school. It was the first book that made me laugh out loud, a pivotal moment for an aspiring writer with a penchant for comedy. What was even more important to me, however, was Mr. Baker's insistence on paying attention to the humor as much as the tragedy in Heller's writing. He taught us that the two were not diametrically opposed to one another, that they were more often than not interwoven, and that it was actually quite difficult to be effective in one genre without consciousness of the other. I still very much believe that, and I hope that our version of "CATCH - 22" shows equal respect and appreciation for both the humor and the tragedy that make up the play. Mr. Baker was very important to me. He made me want to be a teacher, but even more significant than that, he found what I loved and made me love it more. That's a pretty substantial legacy.     - Nick Baer
