Lower
School students were mesmerized by the rhythm and grace of jazz dance during
a special visit by the renowned Gus Giordano Jazz Dance group on October 18.
With lightning-fast costume changes and a whirlwind of movement, the dancers
introduced senior kindergarten through fifth graders to the many dance genres
that have influenced this indigenous American art form. While the children were
fascinated by the performances of traditional African dance, tap, 1920s flapper
dances, Broadway musical choreography, disco, and hip hop, they also learned
about the history of American dance in a fun and entertaining way. The Gus Giordano
Jazz Dance group’s visit was made possible by Latin parents Nancy and David
Sarne for the annual Todd Sarne Memorial Assembly.
