Latin School Teacher Presents Session on Fractals at National Middle School Association Conference in Denver

Chicago -Latin School teacher of 6th and 7th grade math, Tom Canright, has recently returned from the National Middle School Association conference in Denver. While attending the conference he presented a session entitled "Generating a Fractal in a Middle School Classroom" to 60 middle school teachers from around the nation. Canright teaches the lesson himself to his sixth grade classes at Latin, and the lesson is a result of his work for the past 15 months with the K-8 Leadership Program in Discrete Mathematics sponsored by Rutgers University and the National Science Foundation. While in Denver, Canright visited the Graland School, an independent school for JK through ninth grade, and observed the fifth grade classes of Dorothy Herrington who taught English in the Latin middle school from 1989 until 1993.
