Renowned Author/Mathematician John Allen Paulos to Speak at Latin
Chicago - John Allen Paulos, author of six best-selling books, including the well-known Innumeracy-Mathematical Illiteracy and Its Consequences, will speak at The Latin School of Chicago on April 23rd as part of the School's annual Mathematics Seminar. Mathematics teachers and students from over 50 Chicagoland schools were invited to the Seminar. Paulos plans to talk about his newest book, Once Upon a Number, and mathematical concepts contained in everyday things such as the newspaper. Paulos currently teaches mathematics at Temple University in Philadelphia. His books have been highly acclaimed-Innumeracy was on the New York Times bestseller list for five months in 1989 and was translated into 11 different languages. His books have been reviewed and extensively discussed in the national media-including the "MacNeil/Lehrer Show," the "Today Show," the "David Letterman Show," on over 100 radio shows such as the "Larry King Show" and NPR's "Fresh Air," and in Business Week, Time, and Newsweek. The Latin School of Chicago is an independent, co-educational day school with 1,022 students in grades junior kindergarten through twelve.
