High Jump Program Helps Children Prepare for High School-Application Deadline Set for January 29, 1999
Chicago -Applications are now being accepted for the High Jump program, a free program that helps prepare academically talented students with limited opportunities for acceptance and success at selective high schools. The application process is open to all sixth grade students, and applications must be received by January 29, 1999. The program, housed at The Latin School, provides academic and social enrichment courses to 80 middle schoolers each year.
High Jump has provided social and cultural enrichment activities, college counseling services, and resources for parents/guardians for over 10 years. High Jump students meet for six weeks each summer to study core classes such as math, English, science, and social studies, which better prepare them for a challenging high school curriculum. The students then meet during the school year on two or three Saturdays each month to continue their educational development. High Jump graduates have gone on to succeed at selective high schools, such as St. Ignatius College Prep, Lake Forest Academy, Lane Technical High School, Francis W. Parker, Phillips Exeter Academy, Whitney M. Young High School, and The Latin School of Chicago. Many High Jump graduates return to the program as student teachers.
