Author Alfie Kohn to Speak at The Latin School

Chicago - Alfie Kohn, author of the just-released text, The Schools our Children Deserve, will speak at The Latin School of Chicago on Tuesday, September 21. The presentation will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. in the School's Wrigley Theatre.

In his presentation, "Beyond Carrots and Sticks," Kohn will challenge some traditional assumptions about parenting and teaching. He will offer strategies for raising children who are prepared for the challenges of the 21st century and committed to active engagement in lifelong learning.

During the day, Kohn will meet with Latin faculty to discuss research findings that challenge the traditional paradigm of schooling. He will offer suggestions for moving beyond the traditional classroom and creating "the schools our children deserve," the subject of his most recent book.

From 6:30 p.m.-7 p.m., copies of Kohn's books Punished by Rewards and The Schools Our Children Deserve will be available for purchase and signing by the author.
The book signing and evening session are open to the public.

Kohn'ss visit is one in a series of nationally recognized authors and educators scheduled to visit The Latin School this year.
