Latin School
Students to Simulate Nuremberg Trials
The Latin School
of Chicago will be holding its annual simulation of the Nuremberg Trials on
Sunday, December 9, in the Richard J. Daley Center beginning at 8:15 a.m. The
entire proceedings are expected to take approximately 12 hours.
It is the 22nd
consecutive year that upper school students at Latin have participated in the
mock trials. The day-long project is the final exam for the schools unique
Nazi Mind class. In this advanced-level course students learn the history of
the Nazi era, examine the meaning of the period, and explore some of the deeper
questions raised by the Holocaust.
This year, about 50 students will participate in the proceedings. The students
play all parts in the historic trials against Joachim von Ribbentrop, Herman
Goering and other Nazi war criminals. Current and former students will act as
judges.
More than 1,000
Latin students have taken part in the simulation since 1979. Many are expected
to return to observe this year. Alumni and parents are also invited.
