Latin School Junior Named To All-State
Scholastic Bowl Team

Latin School of Chicago eleventh grader James Davis has been named to the All-State Scholastic Bowl First Team for the 2000-2001 season, the Illinois High School Scholastic Bowl Coaches Association announced this week.
Davis, 16, of the North Side, is the only student currently attending a Chicago school named to this year’s team, according to the association. He was among some 8,000 Illinois students from 500 high schools competing in this year’s scholastic bowl.
According to Philip Blessman, Latin School scholastic bowl team, Davis has been a leader on the School’s extremely successful varsity team since his sophomore year. "Jim displays a truly huge breadth of knowledge," Blessman said. "He only needs to hear or read something once, and he remembers it. He is also very calm under pressure, and has a Jordanesque ability to nail the last toss-up question in lightning speed to ice a game."
Davis joins David Werner, of Hawthorne Woods, Gary Leuty, of Salem, Yogesh Raut, of Springfield, Eric Bellm, of Carlinville, and Stephen Moore, of Decatur, on Team Illinois. Team Illinois will represent the State of Illinois at the Panasonic National Scholastic Bowl Championship in Orlando, Florida in June 2001. Illinois placed fourth in the nation in 2000.
