DMSF Awards More Scholarships Then Ever Before

The Daniel Murphy Scholarship Foundation (DMSF), Chicago's largest high school scholarship program will award scholarships to 140 financially needy eighth grades for the fall of 2000 on Thursday, March 16 at The Latin School of Chicago, 59 W. North Blvd.

DMSF chooses scholars based on academic achievement and financial need and affords them the opportunity to attend the country's top college preparatory institutions. With the 140 freshman chosen this year, DMSF will have a total of 424 inner city high school students in its program, making it one of the largest in the country.

DMSF will introduce some of the deserving scholarship recipients for the class of 2004, during a news conference scheduled for 6 p.m., March 16, at the Latin School.

Following the news conference, DMSF will hold its annual Freshmen Awards Evening at Latin. The awardees will be presented with their scholarships, sign their DMSF contracts, and officially become part of one of Chicago's great education success stories.

For ten years, DMSF has been providing high school scholarships and an array of additional services and programs to low income Chicago students. It is Chicago's version of similar privately funded scholarship programs found in other cities around the country. DMSF has awarded approvicmately $3.5 million to deserving Chicago youths during the last decade. Over 90 percent of students entering the program graduate from high school and of those that graduate 98 percent enroll in college.
