Live &
Learn Fall 2001 Session Kicks Off
CHICAGO -
The Live & Learn program at The Latin School of Chicago will kick
off its Fall 2001 session on September 24, offering nearly 250 adult education
classes. The classes will be held through mid-December and are open to
the public for a fee.
This session's
courses include a host of unique offerings including "Monster Bash:
Haunted Stories and Witching Cocktail Hour," on October 17, "How
to Get Out of Debt: Breaking the Credit Card Cycle," October 23,
and "RealAge: Are you as Young as You Can Be: An Evening With
Dr. Michael F. Roizen," on November 15.
Instructors
donate their time and resources to Live & Learn and proceeds from
the program are gifted to The Latin School in support of scholarship programs.
Registration
for all courses is currently underway and depending on availability and
space, is open until the day of class. To register or receive a free catalogue,

"Who's Line Is It Anyway?" An Evening of Improvisation
Date: Tue, Oct 9, 6-8:30 pm Course Fee: $30
Location: Latin Upper School
Join actress and comedienne JULIE GANEY for an evening of improvisational
theater games designed to jump-start your creativity and build your confidence
in a non-threatening and relaxed environment.
Digital Movies: Editing Your Home Videos on Your Computer
Date: Tue, Oct 16 & 23, 6-8:30 pm Course Fee: $100
Location: Latin Upper School
Learn how to edit your home videos on your computer. This hands-on class
will teach you the basics of editing and creating professional looking
home
movies. Learn about the software and equipment needed for this process.
The class will be taught on a Mac using iMovie but will be almost universally
applicable to Windows PCs.
How to Get
Out of Debt: Breaking the Credit Card Cycle
Date: Tue, Oct 23, 7-9 pm Course Fee: $30
Location: Latin Upper School
Join experienced bankruptcy attorney STUART HANDELMAN and former director
of operations for a national collection agency and bad debt buyer JOHN
EVANS for a presentation designed to educate all consumers on the subject
of debt management. The program will cover the different types of credit,
define what usury is, explain the common causes of over extending credit,
define "charge off," and explain the Fair Debt Collection Practices
Act.
How to Buy a Diamond
Date: Wed, Oct 24, 6:30-8 pm Course Fee: $30
Location: Tiffany & Co., 730 N. Michigan Avenue
Join a Tiffany & Co. professional for an informative seminar on how
to buy a diamond. You will learn the essential information on how diamonds
are graded and an explanation of the variety of settings and styles. Before
making this all important purchase, participate in this informal evening
that will include wine and hors d'oeuvres.

Make Ahead Meals for the Perfect Party

Join Chef BRUCE KELLY to learn how to prepare an entire menu in advance
for your next dinner party, holiday entertaining, or family get-together.
Learn tricks from a pro on how to choose a menu that leaves little to
the last minute.
RealAge: Are You as Young as You Can Be?
Date: Thu, Nov 15, 7:30-9 pm Course Fee: $30
Location: Latin Upper School
Best-selling author and preventive gerontologist DR. MICHAEL F. ROIZEN
maintains that his RealAge program can reduce your
biological age by up to 20 years. He's compiled a list of 129 health-related
factors from alcohol use to the educational level of your spouse to help
you
determine your "real age." Roizen then explains how to follow
a personalized age-reduction plan.
Van Gogh and Gauguin: The Studio of the South

meet at top of the grand staircase by the Impressionist
galleries on the Michigan Avenue side
Join art historian BRENDA VAN HALSEMA FRIEDMAN
for an in-depth look at these artists and their late 19th century art
world.
The class begins with a discussion of the key paintings in the Art Institute's
collection. Then, you will receive your ticket to enter the exhibition
on your
own.
