Educational Expedition to Deliver Aid, Foster Web Learning (10/2/02)
On Friday, October 11, a team of outdoor experts and educators from the
organization Connecting Classrooms to the World will show Kindergarten through
fifth grade students at The Latin School of Chicago just some of the equipment
it will need to deliver hundreds of pounds of medical, school, and technical
supplies, including five computers, to the schoolhouse at Puerto Eden, Chile.

Student artists in the High Jump academic enrichment program will share
their thoughts about community, patriotism, and the impact of September
11, during Symbol of Community: The High Jump Flag Project at
The Chicago Historical Society (Clark Street at North Avenue) on Saturday,
March 16.

at The Latin School (2/9/02)
CHICAGOSome of the nations top young chess players will compete
at Chicagos largest scholastic chess tournament on Saturday, February
23, at The Latin School of Chicago 59 W. North Blvd. (the corner of Clark
and North).
Area Math Whizzes to
Compete at the Latin School (2/5/02)
"Five students each buy one scoop of ice cream from a store that
sells seven different flavors. What is the probability that no two students
have the same flavor?" This is just one example of the math problems
that nearly 300 fifth through ninth grade math whizzes from Chicago-area
and Wisconsin schools will tackle during The Latin School of Chicago’s
annual math contest, "2002— A Mathematics Palindrome," on Saturday,
February, 9 2002. This half-day event begins at 9 a.m. at The Latin School,
59 W. North Blvd.

for Summer at Latin 2002 (2/02)
Registration is currently underway for The Latin School of Chicago's tots
through teens summer programs. From June through August, Latin offers
a variety of recreational, athletic, and educational activities for children
from 24 months to 18 years.
North Side Student
Named Candidate in Presidential Scholars Program (2/02)
James Davis, a graduating senior at The Latin School of Chicago, has been
selected as a candidate in the 2002 Presidential Scholars Program. Davis
is among 2,600 candidates chosen from a pool of 2.8 million students expected
to graduate from U.S. high schools in 2002.
Live & Learn
Winter Session Begins (1/02)
The Live & Learn adult education program at The Latin School of Chicago
will kick off its winter mini-session on January 14. Classes will be held
through mid-March and are open to the public for a fee.

High School Field Hockey Player of the Year (1/02)
The Illinois High School Field Hockey Association has named Latin School
senior Carrie Holst High School Player of the Year.
Latin School Commemorates
Martin Luther King, Jr. with Service Day (1/02)
On Monday, January 21, 2002 students, faculty, parents, and alumni from
The Latin School of Chicago will celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. through a day of service. During this federal holiday, Latin
volunteers of all ages will prepare and serve a meal for 500 hungry and
homeless guests of the Uptown Baptist Church soup kitchen (1011 W. Wilson
Ave.)
