Latin School Students to Simulate
Nuremberg Trials (12/3/99)
The Latin School of Chicago will be holding its annual simulation of the
Nuremberg Trials on Sunday, December 5, on the 24th floor of the Richard
J. Daley Center in Chicago from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Public Invited
to Open House At The Latin School (11/14/99)
The Latin School of Chicago, the city's oldest independent school founded
in 1888, will host an open house for grades 6-12 on Sunday, November 21,
at 1 p.m. This afternoon event, open to the public, provides an opportunity
to see this well-known educational institution "in action."
Young Students to Gather
Tomorrow for Chess Tournament at The Latin School of Chicago (11/12/99)
Latin School's Lower School chess team will host an invitational, one-day
tournament for students from the following schools: Dewey, Evanston; Bernard
Zell Anshe Emet Day, Chicago; St. Gilbert's, Grays Lake.
Photo Op As Latin Students Celebrate
The Day of The Dead (10/28/99)
First through fifth grade students at The Latin School of Chicago will
parade in honor of the Mexican Holiday, El Dia de los Muertos (The Day
of the Dead), a time when families gather to honor loved ones who have
passed away.
Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel to Speak
at The Latin School (10/19/99)
Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel has worked on behalf of oppressed
people for much of his adult life. He will share his personal experience
of the Holocaust with students at The Latin School on Wednesday, October
20.
Family Issues
Classes Offered Through Live & Learn Program (10/14/99)
The Live & Learn adult education program at The Latin School of Chicago
will be offering several classes this fall dealing with family issues,
including stepfamilies, adoption and finding the right caregiver.

Featured in Two Live & Learn Programs (10/13/99)
WXRT Radio's Terri Hemmert and Bruce Iglauer, founder and president of
Alligator Records, each will share personal reminiscences about the Chicago
Blues scene at two upcoming programs offered through Latin's Live & Learn
fall program.
Young Author Visits Latin to Talk
with other Children About his Book (10/13/99)
Fourteen-year-old Adair Gregory, author of Sugar Was My Best Food;
Diabetes and Me, will talk with Middle School Latin students on Thursday,
October 14. Diagnosed with diabetes five years ago, Gregory wrote the
book, now in its third printing, for kids who are newly diagnosed and
is intended to let them know how they might feel and what to expect.
Live & Learn Offers a Variety
of Classes for Fall Semester (9/29/99)
The fall Live & Learn program at The Latin School of Chicago kicks off
this week, offering more than 200 adult classes. These classes, to be
held between now and mid-December, are open to the public for a fee.
Author Alfie Kohn to Speak at The

Alfie Kohn, author of the just-released text, The Schools our Children
Deserve, will speak at The Latin School of Chicago on Tuesday, September
21.

Renowned Family Psychologist and Author
Michael Thompson to Speak at The Latin School of Chicago (8/26/99)
Michael Thompson, Ph.D., preeminent child psychologist, co-director of
the Cambridge Center for School Consultation, and best-selling author
will visit Latin on Thursday, August 26 for a discussion and book-signing
of his best-selling book Raising Cain Protecting the Emotional Life
of Boys.
Students
to Show Art at Great Frame-Up Creative Expressions Exhibit (4/14/99)
Students from The Latin School of Chicago have been chosen to participate
in The Great Frame-Up Creative Expressions Exhibit, which will be displayed
from Tuesday May 4th through Tuesday May 18th at The Great Frame-Up, 21
Elm Street. The Great Frame-Up Creative Expressions Exhibit is part of
a nationwide program designed to support high school art departments.

Latin School of Chicago's Upper School Chorus to Perform at Viterbo College
on April 21 (4/7/99)
The Latin School of Chicago´s Upper School Chorus will be performing
at the Viterbo College Fine Arts Center Recital hall at 929 Jackson Street
in LaCrosse, Wisconsin on Wednesday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. Admission to
the peformance is free and open to the public.
The
Latin School of Chicago's Student/Faculty Chorale to Perform on April
13 (3/19/99)
The Latin School of Chicago's Student/Faculty Chorale will be performing
at St. Chrysostym's Church at 1424 N. Dearborn on Tuesday, April 13 at
7:30 p.m. Admission to the performance is $5 for students and $7 for adults
and is open to the public.
The
Latin School of Chicago Awarded NSTA and Toyota Tapestry Grant (3/9/99)
The Latin School of Chicago was selected as one of 50 recipients from
over 800 submissions for the National Science Teachers Association and
Toyota Motors Tapestry Grant. This $10,000 grant is given to innovative
projects that enhance science education in schools.

Author/Mathematician John Allen Paulos to Speak at Latin (3/9/99)
John Allen Paulos, author of six best-selling books, including the well-known
Innumeracy-Mathematical Illiteracy and Its Consequences, will speak
at The Latin School of Chicago on April 23rd as part of the School's annual
Mathematics Seminar.
The
Latin School of Chicago Hosts Auction '99, March 13th at the Chicago Hilton
& Towers (3/1/99)
The Latin School of Chicago will host Auction '99 on March 13, 1999 at
the Chicago Hilton & Towers. The evening will attract over 900 guests
with over 1000 items for their bidding. All funds raised from the Auction
support the School's financial aid, academic, athletic, and arts programs.
Summer
Programs for All Children Offered by The Latin School of Chicago (1/25/99)
Coming this June, The Latin School of Chicago will be offering a wide
variety of summer programs for age groups from preschool to twelfth grade.
Registration is currently open to the public for Latin's Day Camp, Summer
School, and Specialized Camps.
Auction
Art to Be Previewed at The Latin School of Chicago (1/20/99)
Approximately 70 to 80 pieces of art will be auctioned, along with other
items, at The Latin School of Chicago's Auction '99. The Auction, held
on March 13th, raises funds for Latin's arts, athletic, academic, and
scholarship programs. The pieces of art will be previewed in a special
gallery showing and reception on Wednesday, February 3rd, from 5:30 p.m.
to 7:30 p.m. at the Upper School.
Martin
Luther King Jr. to Be Honored at Lower School Assembly on January 14 (1/13/99)
To celebrate the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Lower School
(junior kindergarten through grade five) at The Latin School of Chicago
will hold an assembly called "Peace and Friendship." The assembly
will take place on January 14th in the School's first floor, located at
1531 N. Dearborn, from 8:40 - 9:10 a.m.

You Won't Find Chicago's Top Independent Schools in U.S. News & World
Report's Rating of Area High Schools (1/11/99)
You won't find top area independent schools, including The Latin School
of Chicago, Francis W. Parker School, and the University of Chicago Laboratory
Schools, in the most recent issue of U.S. News & World Report which
ranks high schools and is scheduled to be on newsstands today. These schools
and other area independent schools chose not to complete the survey that
was used to rate schools on various subjects.
