Upper School creative writing teacher and service learning director, Billy Lombardo, has recently learned that he is a finalist for two prestigious writing awards.
His essay “White Sox Victory” that aired on WBEZ is one of three finalists for the Peter Lisagor Award for Exemplary Journalism in the radio commentary category. In its 29th year, the Lisagor awards honor the work of Chicago journalists during the past year. Winners will be announced at an April 21st banquet featuring syndicated columnist Leonard Pitts, Jr.
His book The Logic of a Rose is one of 10 finalists for short story book of the year by ForeWord Magazine, a publication that showcases critical reviews and trends in the independent publishing market. The finalists in this seventh annual award program were chosen from among 1,540 submissions. Awards will be announced on May 19th.
Lombardo is also the faculty advisor for Polyphony HS, a national literary journal for and by high school students begun by Latin students last year.
