| Lois Lowry |
Two-time Newberry Medal winning author Lois Lowry visited both the Lower and Middle School on April 11, signing books, answering questions and sharing with students where some of her best ideas come from: her own memories.
She talked about some of those memories in a photo presentation to students, showing pictures of herself as a baby, preteen, young bride and mother. During her remarks, Lowry walked the audience through some of her formative experiences, including her living in Hawaii as well as Japan shortly after the end of World War II.
Lowry also discussed the difficulty of getting published for the first time and her ongoing challenges as a writer. In fact, she showed the students copies of the many rejection letters she received over the years as well her first published work, a letter to the editor she wrote to a childrens’ magazine as a young girl.
Lowry even mentioned her trip to Latin on her blog online, noting, “It is always a treat to be in a school….to be with librarians! And kids! And teachers! And to see the excitement that books still bring.”
