Middle and upper school students jumped at the chance to participate in this year's Dodge Ball Tournament in March, raising nearly $5,000 to benefit Free the Children.

The tournament is the Youth in Action club's largest fundraiser, with proceeds going toward the group's trip to Africa this summer. Thirty-nine teams, which included more than 225 middle and upper school students and 40 faculty and staff, competed in what has become a much-anticipated annual event.

So far, the club has raised $9,000 toward its $11,000 target for the year. The money will go directly to a rural village in Kenya, where 16 upper school students will travel in August. While there, students will help build a primary school, as well as work on other projects for which they have been fundraising for two years.

"We look forward to the opportunity to represent the Latin community in such an exciting partnership, and we appreciate everyone's support and enthusiasm for our largest fundraiser of the year," said MS and US Physical Education Chair and Youth in Action club sponsor Scott Eastman, who will accompany the students to Africa.
