Reverend Kyles
A close friend of Martin Luther King, Jr., Reverend Billy Kyles was there as the civil rights movement began to transform the U.S.

Kyles was also there when King was assassinated on April 4, 1968.

In a unique opportunity to hear directly from a participant in key events that shaped this country, Latin upper school students listened to Kyles speak in the theater on March 1. Kyles delivered an inspirational message about hope and perseverance.

"Hold fast to your dreams. For if dreams die, you are like a broken-winged bird that cannot fly," said Kyles, who often speaks to students about his experiences.

Standing by King’s side as he was shot on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Kyles was also with King during his final hours. Today he serves as the pastor of Monumental Baptist Church in Memphis.
