Latin boys varsity tennis team won the Lincoln Park Sectional on Saturday, May 20, in grand fashion, qualifying two singles players and two doubles teams for the state tournament to be held this weekend.

Latin led all teams with 31 points. Parker scored 19, Lincoln Park, 10, Von Steuben and Mather were tied for fourth with 6 points, and Northside College Prep and Taft rounded out the field with 4 points each.

In a battle of Latin sophomores for the singles title, Mac McAnulty beat Michael Jacobson, 6-1, 6-0. Mac dropped only one game in the entire tournament. Both players will advance to the state tournament. The team of senior Wiles Kase and freshman Kevin Prescott won the doubles title, 6-0, 7-5, over a team from Parker. Freshman Teddy Gates and sophomore Ryan Williams defeated a team from Lincoln Park, 6-4, 6-1, in the match to determine third place. Both Latin teams advance to the state tournament.

The state tournament will be headquartered at Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, Thursday through Saturday, May 25-27. Many schools from District 214 in the northwest suburbs will host preliminary matches. Final matches on Friday and Saturday will be played at Hersey. Schedules will be hosted on the IHSA website.
