It’s a one-two match-up in Oak Park today for those willing to brave the Eisenhower traffic for a chance to see the two strongest boys water polo teams in the state.

Number two Latin faces no. 1 Fenwick (20-0) at 5 p.m. in Fenwick’s pool.

Heading into today’s match, the boys team is 12-1. Their one loss came at the hands of no. 10 Brother Rice, 8-9 in overtime on Monday, April 10.

The Romans have notched wins against Von Steuben (16-2), no. 13 New Trier (12-5), Whitney Young (16-3); no. 18 Oak Park-River Forest (12-6), Lake Forest Academy (15-3), no. 5 Napervillle Central (9-6), no. 17 Stevenson (10-5), no. 8 St. Ignatius (6-3), and no. 4 Lyons Township (9-7).

The team won the Latin Tournament on April 8, beating Stevenson (4-2), no. 20 Neuqua Valley (9-8), and Palatine (11-3).

Meanwhile, the girls varsity team has a no. 13 ranking (up one from last week), according to the media poll published by Illpolo.com on April 16.

The girls are 5-5. Three of those wins came at the April 8 Latin tournament that they won, against Hinsdale South (11-4), Northside College Prep (17-2), and Hinsdale Central (12-2). Their two other wins have been against no. 9 New Trier (6-4) and a close one against Lyons Township (8-7) on April 13.

Their losses have come against top-10 teams: no. 1 Fenwick (5-12), no. 2 Stevenson (8-10), no. 3 Mother McAuley (4-8), no. 4 St. Ignatius (5-6), and no. 5 Naperville Central (3-8).

They travel to Northside College Prep for a rematch today.
