After two early season tournaments and two away games, Latin enjoyed its home opener with a well-played win against Northside College Prep on Monday, April 10, 25-19, 25-21.
Latin expected a tough match against the Mustangs, who beat them in last year’s meetings. The first game was indeed a close battle until Bryan Dluhy took serve at 19-17 and served three aces. The second game started with a 7-0 run by Latin but ended up closer.
Jeff Kahn notched 22 assists (and 1 kill) finding Jack Ransdell (7 kills, 3 blocks), Torin Pyer-Pereira (7 kills, 2 aces), Brice Ormesher (4 kills), and Dluhy (4 kills) for the offensive power.
This looked like the same tough Latin team that snatched a three-game victory from Walter Payton last week.
On Wednesday, Latin (6-7) travels to De La Salle for a rematch of the Kelvyn Park Tournament's third place game that Latin won 25-19, 25-23.
