Dear families, faculty, staff and trustees,
I wanted to share the letter below that I sent to all of our educational partners/vendors that currently work with Latin students or have in the past. I am confident that Latin's value of integrity guides and pervades all of our work with students. We are fortunate that the same holds true for the majority of people/organizations that partner with families outside of Latin, but given the recent scandals in the news, I felt it was important to reiterate our commitment to this value and make our expectations clear.
Randall
Latin School of Chicago
Dear Colleagues,
I am writing because you have worked closely with students at Latin School of Chicago or may be poised to in the future. Latin families frequently seek out expertise in tutoring, standardized test prep, college counseling, psychological counseling, or psychoeducational testing beyond what we provide within our school. As trusted partners, I am grateful for the support you provide our students.
My purpose for reaching out is my concern about the many academic, college entrance, and financial aid scandals that hit the news this past school year and my fear that these stories will only continue in the coming years. Latin's commitment to integrity as a school value compels us to ensure that the student's academic, social, and emotional journey through school is authentic, ethically-grounded, and aims to fit their needs for support and challenge.
Many of you are already members of professional organizations that ground your work in a series of principles, guidelines, and practices that help provide excellent services in the spirit of doing what is both right and best for each student. Latin agrees that a strong set of personal and professional ethics is irreplaceable when providing perspective and modeling integrity for students and families.
To this end, we ask you to continue to endorse the following set of realistic hopes and expectations when working with members of our community. If you are working with a Latin family/student, please:
It is our sincere hope that we will continue to shepherd students through our community with respect for their capacities, authenticity, and well being; we pledge to continue to work together toward this end.
Sincerely,
Randall Dunn Head of School
