The Visual Arts at the Latin School of Chicago are rich in activity and creativity.
Through our studio experiences, we encourage students to think of art as artistic behaviors. Our students learn by doing as we encourage their creativity and individual voice. Our goal is for our students to gain confidence as visual problem solvers and to learn to use art to communicate their ideas and impressions of the world to the best of their ability. They learn to respond, record, shape, personalize, and critique their world.
Photography is an art form that allows our students to understand more about themselves and their world. By empowering our students with strong skills in camera functions, darkroom procedures, and technology, our students gain mastery of techniques and learn to set very high personal standards for their work.
We offer classes in Photography 1, Experimental and Color Photography, and Expressive Voice. Highly motivated students have the opportunity to continue their studies through Independent Study in Advanced Photography.
The following images in our Student
Web Photo Gallery were created by some photography students during the
2000-01 school year. All of these students are taught photography by Betty
Lark Ross.
