Science
teachers aim to help you develop a greater awareness, if not awe, of the intricacies
and intrigue of the natural world. And their hands-on, discovery-oriented
approach to learning is sure to accomplish that goal. The science program
is rich with opportunities unrivaled anywhere, from electives in animal behavior,
microbiology, biomedical physics, and astronomy, to a full range of honors,
Advanced Placement, and independent research-oriented studies. The normal
science sequence begins with ninth grade biology followed by 10th grade chemistry.
Before graduating, students also will have studied a year of physics or a
semester each of physics and astronomy. Most students will continue with at
least another year of the science of their choosing.
Latin Middle School students learn important computer skills in technology courses before high school. In Upper School, courses in the fundamentals are offered for those students who have no previous experience. Interested students may continue their studies with a two-year computer science sequence and independent studies.
