Thursday, March 13
We spent this day filling our hearts as well as our stomachs. We met with the staff of Su Casa Catholic Worker, a not-for-profit organization that provides transitional housing for Spanish-speaking migrants. The staff lives with the residents and it was our job to help make the home more comfortable by doing some clean-up work at the entrance of the house. With shovels and gloved hands, we filled 8 trash cans with the debris of Su Casa's former roof. Conch fritters and jerk chicken were on tap for lunch on Thursday. We enjoyed pan-Caribbean cuisine at Calypso Cafe in Hyde Park. We will end our week tomorrow with a trip to DuSable African American museum and a trip to Pearl's Place in Bronzeville for American Soul Food.
