We will spend the week studying Spanish, participating in culturally appropriate activities, living with a Mexican
family and enjoying the atmosphere of Guanajuato.
A UNESCO World Heritage site since 1988, Guanajuato has no traffic lights or neon signs, creating an extremely
enjoyable place to walk - peaceful, yet with plenty of life in the streets, and plenty to see. It is a historical and picturesque
town of agreeable little plazas, streets lined with stairs and houses of pastel-colored facades and balconies trimmed with
iron work, and flower-filled window boxes. This extremely charming city is actually very lively and possesses an energetic,
youthful personality, due, in part, to the presence of the University of Guanajuato, which is known for its art programs.
Sunday, March 9
We arrived at the school on Sunday afternoon and the students were met by their Mexican host families. They were taken home for lunch and then were given a tour of beautiful Guanajuato.

Monday, March 10
Everyone met at school at 8:00 a.m. They were given their Spanish evaluations and assigned to classes. The students are in class until 1:00. I sat in on several classes and found everyone working hard. Immediately after class the students were taken on another walking tour and then went home for lunch. They returned to school at 7:00 p.m. for a lecture on Mexican migration to the United States. There are other students here from around the world. Several people commented to me about our students' excellent Spanish. At 8:00 p.m. we left school to walk down to the historic district for a welcome dinner. We celebrated Ella McCann's 18th birthday with a cake and songs.
