This morning our Icelandic hosts joined us on a tour of Lake Myvatn, one of the most spectacular areas of Iceland. Our first stop was the waterfall Goðafoss. It is not a terribly large or powerful waterfall, but it is strikingly beautiful. We then headed on to see weird lava formations in the form of Icelandic trolls, bubbling mud pits, and hissing steam vents. But the highlight of our tour was probably visting the farm where our dear friend and guide, Jónas, grew up. We met his father and brother and several hundred sheep living in the barn for the winter. (The fact that many of us had eaten lamb for dinner made the encounter a bit odd!) We then had pizza dinner with the Icelanders and then went swimming again. Relaxing in 100 degree water while snow fell on us – very Icelandic!
