We will familiarize ourselves with two very different stage works, Johann Strauss's rollicking operetta Die
Fledermaus (1874) and Francis Poulenc's intense Dialogues des Carmélites (1957) at Lyric Opera. We also will attend
a Chicago Symphony concert featuring Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 and Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20in D minor with guest soloist Mitsuko Uchida. We will take a behind-the-scenes back stage tour at Lyric Opera. Preparation will include the
auditioning and viewing of recordings of the works as well as much discussion. We will record our reactions and impressions throughout the week in a journal.
