Mexican Photo Expedition

We will climb the tallest pyramid in the Yucatan, swim in an underground cenote (cave), visit caves that held religious significance for the ancient Mayans, climb inside a pyramid to view the famous jaguar throne, see ancient Mayan ball courts, the wall of skulls, sound and light shows at Uxmal and Chichen Itza and even begin to learn to read ancient Mayan hieroglyphs.

Our journey will include Merida, a town that still echoes its Spanish colonial past. Merida is ideal for picture taking, particularly its charming zocalo (main square) and colorful market. We will travel by boat to photograph Mexico's famous flamingos. We will also see some of Mexico's best known archaeological sites (Uxmal, Chichen Itza, Coba, and Tulum) as well as some of those less frequently visited (Sayil, Loltun Cave, and Kabah). Imagine photographing these great pyramids at sunrise and sunset!

We will stay in a variety of small, charming hotels (with swimming pools) and sample Yucatecan cuisine. We look forward to hiking through jungles, visiting old colonial churches and museums and meeting artisans in their shops. The highlight of our visit will be a trip donating toys and books to a rural school.

We arrived in Mexico only to find out President Bush was also here in Merida. We photographed the delicious fruit and cow heads in the market. We learned how to make tortillas, salsa verde, salbutes and Jamaica. We photographed flamingoes and the mangroves in Celestun. We ate fried fish on the beach and then photographed an old hacienda that is also a henequen plantation. We climbed pyramids, took many pictures during the day and at night in Uxmal. Tomorrow we will visit a school and photograph the inside of caves. Everyone is happy and healthy and well behaved!
