Hiking the Inca Trail

We will retrace the steps of one of the most fascinating civilizations in the Americas: the Inca. Beginning in the Andes, we will stay in the colonial town of Cuzco. Due to the extreme elevation of the area, we will stay a night to acclimatize and will partake in community service in the Sacred Valley Region. From Cuzco, we will white water raft down the Urubamba River to Ollantaytambo, where we will stay overnight before ascending the extremely demanding Inca Trail. From the trailhead, we will climb over four thousand feet in altitude, enduring steep climbs, high and low extreme temperatures, and uneven terrain. We will hike an average of 6-8 hours a day while carrying a pack. We will explore Inca ruins while traversing the beautiful Andean jungle, and we will view incredible mountain passes, most notably, Deadwoman's Pass and Runquracay Pass. Guides will be provide us with an abundance of historical, cultural and religious information about the Inca civilization. Our final day will be spent touring the lost city of Machu Picchu, considered by many, the eighth wonder of the world.
