In Search of Soul Food: Civil Rights in America
This project begins in Little Rock, Arkansas and takes us on a modified pilgrimage to explore the sights, sounds, and images of the nonviolent, direct action of the Civil Rights Movement in six Southern cities. Before we have finished, we will have explored Memphis, Jackson, Selma, Montgomery, Birmingham, and Atlanta, and have met people who lived through some of these pivotal events of the 1960s. We also will explore the literature, listen to the music, eat the food, and learn to appreciate the unique flavor of Southern life.
