ASTRONOMY IN NEW MEXICO

Friday, 3/18/05
Hello, hello, hello!

Today is our last day. But fear not.

Last night I captured Saturn on a planetary scope, while others image-processed and imaged.

Kenny took a very exciting image of the Trifid Nebula, and also started reading a book called The Street Lawyer, which he recommends we should all read.

Nick imaged M92 and M95, which are both globular clusters.

Hans took his camera and tripod out into the moonlight and actually imaged the moon at the same time along with some images of M109.

Mr. Coberly captured the Whirlpool Galaxy.

Mrs. Gehret worked on lots of different and interesting images such as Eagle Nebula and M27 and went to bed after taking a picture of the sunrise.

It was a long night! Everyone woke up around noon, having been up till about 4 a.m. The kids read for about two hours and enjoyed some "Family Guy" while the adults got a head start on image processing.

Saturn by EllaI learned today that after imaging Saturn last night on Mr. Wilson's (we don't know him) planetary telescope, he is going to publish my image!!! And as you can imagine I was ecstatic. It's going on his website. I'm the only girl on this trip as was Mina Marien (in 2003), and we have both been published, in different places of course.

This afternoon, we went to Mrs. Rice's office to buy our souvenirs from New Mexico Skies. Then we went back to the boys' cabin and engaged in our final game of Astronomy Monopoly. Around 6:30 the kids became hungry and decided to provide for themselves, making some very tasty quesadillas and tacos. And now everyone is carrying on image processing.

Check out our edline or public site for some videos!!

Well, signing out for good.
