"Prima urbes inter, divum domus, aurea Roma"

The Latin in Rome program is designed specifically to strengthen Latin III and IV students' skills in translation by means of an intensive immersion experience. In addition, we expect to enhance students' understanding of classical culture and to explore the influence of antiquity throughout Italian history.

Rome, Italy was the central location for our immersion experience, but we will also took mini-excursions to Ostia and an extended trip to Pompey, Naples, Sorrento, and Capri. We translated and read on-site and focused on classical culture while examining the transformations that occurred in the aftermath of the collapse of the Roman Empire. Finally, we discussed modern Italian history, contemporary culture, and political life.
