The goal
of this project is to teach students how to build and program robots.
First, we will learn about the mechanical and electrical components
of robots and practice some basic electronics and soldering. Then, each student
will build a simple robot from a kit and test it with various challenges.
Finally, we will hold contests and games in which students can compete with
their robots of choice. After Project Week, we will organize a “Robot
Day” to show the community our creations.
In this project, students will be working with small parts and complex
instructions to build and program their robots. Each day, we will
meet at Latin for instruction, demonstrations, construction, and
testing.
This project is led by Ken Bowen and Dennis Erickson. Mr. Bowen teaches
computer drafting and stagecraft. He has a bachelor’s degree
in physics and often designs and builds special effects for theatre
productions. Mr. Erickson teaches physics, astronomy, electronics,
and computer programming. He has built many electronic kits and is
a ham radio operator.
