Today we were on the move again. We checked out of the hotel early in
the morning, ate breakfast, and headed to Cahokia Mounds. After the hour
and a half bus ride, we arrived and saw a presentation about the people
who built the mounds. Then, we climbed nearby Monks Mound, a temple mound
that was the center of the region, to view the skyline of downtown St.
Louis in the beautiful morning light.
After
boarding the busses again we had a short ride into the city and then visited
the top of the Gateway Arch. Before making the trip to the top, we stopped
to have lunch on the grass under the Arch. Once we reached the top, our
students were treated to beautiful views of downtown St. Louis and the
Mississippi River.
Next,
we headed to the Magic House, one of the first Children's Museums in the
country. There were some awesome interactive exhibits including bubble
making, a sound experience room, a visual experience room, and the famous
Van de Graaff generator. After two hours there, the students were ready
for a bit of downtime and so we headed to Hannibal with plans to begin
the next day early.
