Buon
giorno!
What
a beautiful time we had in Florence! The weather was mild, and rained
only briefly a couple of times. The students made many successful drawings
as they closely viewed the art and architecture. Here are some highlights.
Boboli
Gardens- What a beautiful place, with an incredible view of all of Florence!
We drew many of the sculptures, fountains and landscapes of the gardens.
Uffizi-
We were amazed by the amount of famous artworks here: Giotto, Brunelleschi,
Caravaggio, and Fra Lippi just to name a few. We explored the museum for
the first half of the day, and drew from observation for the second half.
Around
town- There was plenty of free time for gelato and shopping. In addition,
we loved just strolling the piazzas taking in the views! We also saw many
street artists reproducing master works.
Ponte
Vecchio and neighborhood drawing- We spent several nights drawing from
the Ponte Vecchio and one afternoon focusing on the secular architecture
and charm of the neighborhoods of Florence.
Galleria
dell'Accademia- We studied Michelangelo's unfinished slaves and David,
as well as other paintings and sculptures. The students were able to sit
right in front of the David and draw!
Duomo-
We saw the dome of the cathedral (Duomo), Santa Maria del Fiore, the Baptistery,
and Brunelleschi's dome several times (a block from the Savoy). We drew
many full views and details of the architecture.
