"We want Middle School to be an experience in which kids can try out all their different interests. These activities open doors for students to explore who they are and establish an identity."
— Middle School Director Deb Sampey
The primary goal of the Middle School English program is to help students develop the skills necessary to communicate as effectively as possible. They will learn to articulate their responses to the literature they experience and their perceptions of themselves as writers and the roles they play in the world around them.

The process writing method is used to teach composition. Process Writing refers to the way a student develops a written piece. It includes selecting a subject, gathering information, writing and organizing, revising, editing, and finally, rewriting. This method encourages students to initiate ideas and develop them into coherent written pieces. The process also promotes correct use of vocabulary and grammar.

English 6
English 6 familiarizes students with various forms of literature and fosters appreciation and understanding of the importance of different writing styles and techniques. Students are made aware of the different purposes of writing through their exposure to the narrative, persuasive, expository, creative, and descriptive forms.

English 7
English 7 familiarizes students with the various characteristics of each genre. The curriculum includes the study of Biblical literature, short stories, poetry, novels and drama.

English 8
The English 8 curriculum includes the study of legends, myths, short stories, novels, poetry, and drama. Students analyze these works through the study of figurative language, the elements of diction, story patterns in classical mythology, and the structure of poetry and drama.
